Film & Media

Hello and Welcome

The college offers a range of opportunities to explore and engage in the areas of Media and Film.In our modern, 21st Century lifestyle the influence and power of the Media dominates our daily lives. Both creatively and commercially, the Media is an ever-growing source of innovation , communication , entertainment and employment . We have no doubt that you will be interested in the mix of practical and theoretical opportunities that we have to offer to explore Film and Media.

Maybe you already have an interest in the world of Media? Perhaps you are a film addict and would some day like to be involved in the creation of a movie? Instead of merely watching TV, do you one day want to front it? Do you have a designer’s eye that may suit the vision for innovative Print Work? Are you a budding Rupert Murdoch, Quentin Tarantino, Jodie Foster, James McAvoy or Kate Blanchett?Or do you merely want to understand Media and Film better?

Choose from Media Studies and/or Film Studies to start to live those dreams now…. Express yourself!

Why choose this subject...

With the increasing influence of the Media in our daily lives, it is important to be ‘media literate’ ; to not merely consume or be consumed by the Media, but to also better understand and contribute to how it actually works. Students who currently take these courses are fascinated by the content, they welcome the mix and variety of both practical productions alongside theoretical concepts, and thrive on the flexibility to shape their studies to suit individual personal interests.

For example:

  • If you choose Media, there is scope to choose practical production work in areas such as TV Drama, Film, Radio, Print, and in some cases mixing a variety of these technical areas. It is the variety of subject matter that makes the subject interesting and the range of skills required that makes it satisfyingly challenging.
  • If you choose Film, then there is scope to pitch the study to films that interest you; and in Year 2 the small scale film research is on a topic chosen by you to match your own specific film interests.

All Media and Film courses combine theory with practice, offering a variety of learning experiences which strongly appeals to most students.

You will be following in the successful footsteps of many previous students who have been challenged, excited and invigorated by their study of the Media and Film. Indeed, many have gone on to study Media, Film and related courses (such as broadcast journalism, advertising, and various production courses) at University. Others have taken up training and employment within media related industries, or started their own media companies. Media and Film are the here , the now and the future of our daily lives; as such, we are sure we have a course that will interest you.
