Students from AS Film Studies earlier this term took a behind the scenes look at the film industry as they ventured into the projection rooms at the Odeon Cinema at Festival Park. The aim of the trip was to look at the range of roles within the cinema sector and to see how cinemas have adapted to technological advances such as the changeover from film strips to digital media.
Students from Media Studies this week got the chance read beyond the headlines as they came face to face with people from the world of journalism. Ross Hawkes, a journalism lecturer from Staffordshire University, and freelance journalist Brian Beard, came into the Sixth Form College to give some informative talks to our budding hacks.
Students from Interactive Media Production took their learning onto their own film and photoshoot sets this week with a visit to Elmfield Training. Having already developed and pitched a few ideas to boost the profile of the company’s IT department in January, last week saw the students bring their ideas to life with the help of staff at the company.
On Friday 3rd of February, three former students came into college to chat with current A2 Film and Media students about their university experiences and give some crucial interview tips. The students; Rebecca Hilton, Jake Leese and George Smith were all Film and Media Studies students last year and were all College Oscar winners or nominees. Fittingly, they are now all studying Media (Film) Production at Staffs University and loving every minute of it.
BTEC Interactive Media Production students this week took their ideas into the real world as they pitched them to a group of professionals from Elmfield Training.
Just before the Christmas Break, over thirty Film Studies and Performance Studies students were treated to a unique opportunity to interrogate a ‘film star’ right here at the Sixth Form College.
