On a cold December day, six Classics students led by Cathy Plumb and Andy Kettle ventured to the former Roman fortress of Dewa , known to us today as Chester. There is so much more to the city than shopping and we were there to discover its fascinating history.
Earlier this term a group of History and Classics students who were interested in Archaeology visited a local dig taking place in Hanley. They were able to observe the process of surveying and excavating in process as the building of the new bus station was getting under way.
Last week gave A2 Law and Politics students the chance to look into their academic futures with talks from a range of guests from Staffordshire and Keele.
The Young Curator Project pushed further forward this week with the students’ exhibits becoming live and going on display ay the Potteries and History Museum in Hanley.
London was a Roman creation. There was no settlement there prior to the Roman invasion. Roman London was very like the modern day capital – a lively, cosmopolitan place with a strong financial sector. Just before the summer vacation, a group of students, ably led by Cathy Plumb and Andrew Kettle, made their way down there to investigate the treasures the Roman invaders had left behind.
Dr Tristram Hunt, MP for Stoke Central, returned to the Sixth Form College to teach a History class for AS students.
Sixty A Level History students from the Sixth Form College and Sixth Form Centre visited Staffordshire University to learn more about "Colonisation and De-colonisation in Africa 1870-1981".
