The British Colleges National Championships

National Champions

Yet Again….Phenomenal Success at The British Colleges National Championships!

Victory for Volleyball

Our superb volleyball teams have both excelled yet again, with the girls winning the national championship after beating their fiercest rivals, Chichester College, and the boys finishing runners-up (both going one better than last year).

Proud team captain Becky Chadwick, formerly of Madeley High School, said:

“The weekend was awesome!! We had such a fantastic time which made all of the training and hard work worthwhile. The girls really stepped up their game and played together as a team. We definitely deserved to win the competition and we are so proud to bring the title back to Stoke.”

Dan Williams, formerly of Blurton High School and Joe Hardings formerly of Berryhill High School, were a little disappointed not to win the championship as they came a close runner-up in their competition.

“I really enjoyed the weekend and although we came second this year, as a first year student at the Sixth Form College, it has made me more determined to go back next year and win!”

“We all supported each other and we are really pleased for the girls. During the weekend we were not only representing the college and Stoke, we were also part of Team West Midlands which was a good feeling and showed what being part of a team can really be like.”

Trampoliners

Our trampoliners have also picked up medals in the different categories that they entered with our girl’s college team gaining silver. The college was also represented in the regional novice teams - winning bronze.

Other sports represented were our mixed doubles badminton, girls cross country team and female swimming, all of which competed in high standard competitions and although they did not pick up a medal, they performed really well on a national stage. All of the results from The British Colleges Sport 2010 Championship are published on the British Colleges website: www.britishcollegessport.org

Dave Brereton, Teacher of PE said: “Throughout the weekend the students were a real credit to the college and gave their all for the regional team. This year we managed to achieve 3rd place nationally, which is the first time in 15 years that they have finished this high!”
