College Youth Speaks Team Secures 2nd Place

At this year’s annual Youth Speaks district final competition, our students performed exceptionally well and were awarded a very impressive second place.

Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Stoke-on-Trent, this prestigious event saw our students competing against many other college’s, private and grammar schools in the district.

This year we were proud to welcome back two former members of our Youth Speaks Team; Jack Pearce and Ewan Forsyth along with our new member, first year student Tyra Wrobel.

Taking to the stage as our speaker was Jack, who studies Government and Politics, English Literature and History- an enthusiastic and engaging student Jack has been the President of the Debating Society for the past twelve months and hopes to pursue a career in Politics following university.

No stranger to public speaking Ewan posed as our Vote of Thanks. Studying Classical Civilisation, English Literature and History with high hopes of become an intelligence officer in the RAF. As an active member of the Debating and History Society Ewan has been a great support to fellow team mates.

Tyra, who hopes to go into a career in Child Care studies Media Studies, English Literature and Classic Civilisation has grown in confidence as the new member of our team, recently elected as Vice President of the Debating Society we were extremely lucky to have her kind and characterful nature on the team.

The team worked incredibly hard to construct, rehearse and put together an eloquent and informative presentation about the complexities of Foreign Aid, entitled ‘The Ethiopian Spice Girls’ it combined a wonderful balance of humor, enthusiasm and fact.

We are extremely proud that our team were awarded second place which is a fantastic achievement and very well deserved. Congratulations to the team.
