Product Design Challenge

Today our first year Product Design students took part in a design challenge with students from Sixth Form Colleges from throughout the city.

Ran at Staffordshire University our students were set a design brief, simulating the real-world design process. Our students were tasked with creating designs for well-known brands which they then presented to a panel of university lecturers and second year degree students.

The students were asked to come up with designs for big brands including a yacht for BMW, headphones for Nike and headphones for Chanel. Each design was then presented to the judging panel.

Rose Lane, one of the College’s Product Design teachers took a lead on the College’s involvement with the competition. Rose said: ‘Getting involved with the Staffs Uni Design Challenge has been a great experience for our students. This has been an opportunity for them to respond to fun and challenging design briefs in a new environment. Our students gained meaningful experience of pitching, responding to corporate briefs and collaborating with degree students.’

Our students enjoyed taking part in this activity and will apply the experience they gained in their studies.
