STUDENT GOVERNORS 2010/2011
As the rest of the nation waited with bated breath for the official results of the General Election, the focus here in Fenton was on the results of their very own election – Student Governors.
On the very same day that Gordan Brown left 10 Downing Street and David Cameron took over as the new British Prime Minister, our current student Governors, Job Davies and Amber Banks also handed the reigns over to their newly elected successors.
This year eight first year students from across all three faculty areas fought interesting campaigns in order to claim the most votes from the student body and become the first Student Governors at the new college site on Leek Road.

The results are announced
On Thursday at 1pm, the results from the tutorial ballots had been counted and Nigel gathered a small enthusiastic crowd to announce that Rachel Bowers and Joe Graham had won the election.

No need for a recount or five days worth of coalition negotiations, our two newly elected Governors won their campaigns with an outright majority and will take their seats at the College Corporation as the Student Governors 2010/2011.
Joe Graham, formerly of Endon High School is studying Politics at the college. He was delighted to be elected on Thursday.
“As Student Governor I am hoping to create a far stronger link between the college management team and the students in order to gain a greater understanding between the two. I think we can then work together and become a far stronger team. After taking a tour of the new college building, I have become far more optimistic and actually seeing the place in reality teamed with attending regular Student Forum meetings has really helped to quash some of the myths that have been circulating. I hope to be able to spread the word - reassuring students and preventing some of the rumours.”

Rachel Bowers, also a former Endon High school pupil said:
“As I stated throughout my campaign, I am particularly keen to get involved in extending the college enrichment programme and helping to develop the opportunities available for all students. A number of students have unique hobbies and interests and it would be great to offer more of these here at the college. I also hope to help increase attendance at the Student Forum meetings so that people can really get involved in the college community and hear the messages that Joe and I are seeking to get across.”
The rest of the six students were delighted to be asked by Nigel to form part the Student Council. The Council meet with the Student Forum (tutor group reps) and then convene to discuss issues raised; they can really make a difference and play an important role in the student community.
