Pitchin' to Michelin

AS Product Design students this week had the opportunity to pitch their ideas to executives from Michelin with the chance to see their ideas become reality and become developed for the Michelin Lifestyle Heritage Range. The process began back in March when students began developing their initial ideas when Michelin staff came in for their first consultation, sitting with students and going through the practicalities of their ideas. This time, it was the big pitch.


Art students' work auctioned in the Atrium

On an evening that The Apprentice screened an art task, our own young business brains were busy with their own art auction in the Main Atrium after college. The event, titled Artistic Youth, took place over the evening with Level 2 Business students selling Art students’ pieces.

Art and Photography students see the bigger picture in Birmingham

AS Art and Design, and Photography students visited Birmingham last week to visit galleries to find references for their Unit 2 externally set assignment that they started on the 1st February. The students had to select a topic from a set number of questions.

Michelin Lifestyle Ltd is a subsidiary company of Michelin Tyre Plc that uses the Michelin brand to develop and market a wide range of merchandise made under licence and exported worldwide.


Lights... Camera... Learning; Students Elmfield pitches become a reality

Students from Interactive Media Production took their learning onto their own film and photoshoot sets this week with a visit to Elmfield Training. Having already developed and pitched a few ideas to boost the profile of the company’s IT department in January, last week saw the students bring their ideas to life with the help of staff at the company.


Professional Critique for Design Students

A Level Design Technology students have been inspired by studying in a the brand new Sixth Form College building to base their A2 coursework on creating similar new architectural designs.


A Day in the Life of a Design Undergrad

Students studying AS and A2 Product Design were invited to spend two days at Staffordshire University, on their Stafford Campus learning more about two of their most popular degree courses – Motorsport Design and Robotics. Many of the students who went along have already gained places in similar degree disciplines across the country and were intrigued to discover what was in store for them for the next three years.


Photography Students Work on Local Commision

Professional Photographer, Christopher Huthwaite, has visited the Sixth Form College a number of times over the past few weeks to carry out a piece of work commissioned by the City Council. Christopher kindly offered to include some of our photography students in the process to give them some real experience.
