Here at the Sixth Form College we have a lively English Department with a range of courses to suit your interests in English and match your capability. Whether you have a passion for creative writing, love to read your way through a library of classic authors or you would like another shot at your English GCSE-to get that all important C grade, we’ll have the English course to suit you!

Why choose this subject...

Gaining a qualification in English is an excellent foundation for a wide range of careers and professions and is highly valued in a whole host of degree disciplines in particular English, Law and Social Sciences.

Don’t underestimate the value of a good GCSE grade in English, it is highly valued by universities and employers alike and is essential if you want to become a teacher.

If you wish to choose a course at the Sixth Form College you can choose from:

  • A Level English Language- Studying this course will help you to become a more effective communicator and to explore how language has changes and is used in the modern world.
  • A Level English Literature- You will study a wide range of novels, plays and poetry from different periods and will discover both contemporary and older texts.
  • A Level English Language & Literature- This course involves a combined approach to the two aspects of English as described above.
  • GCSE English- Studying this course will give you another opportunity to gain a good GCSE grade in English.
