Our budding Performance Studies students continued their great work in the community with another performance, this time at a retirement home in Kidsgrove. AS and A2 students took to the stage to perform A Northern Nativity , the Stoke-on-Trent themed pantomime penned by tutor Emma Stanway which was also performed by our staff before the Christmas break.
The visit was requested by the home who are keen to work with young people to provide activities for the residents. This further strengthens the College’s links with the community, building upon the successful performances during the year.

As well as performing the nativity, the students staged dramatic readings of The Night Before Christmas and sang carols to entertain the residents.
Performing Arts teacher Emma Stanway said; “The performance went well and it was appreciated by everybody at the home. We faced a challenge with the performance space which was smaller than we expected and we had to think quickly. We decided to turn the nativity into a radio play which the residents really enjoyed and appreciated.”
The students found the visit very useful too. “Some of them have never performed in front of this kind of audience before and at first were uneasy”, added Emma.

“They had to get used to it quickly. It is all good experience.”
“We took requests with the carols and some of the residents even joined in. It was a great event and a good time was had by all.”
