Career progression in Sport and Exercise Psychology

A guest speaker from the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at MMU Cheshire Faculty visited the college on Monday 3rd December to talk about careers in Sport and Exercise Psychology.

Dr Nick Smith gave an enthusiastic lecture on the role of a Sport and Exercise Psychologist to the PE and Psychology students.Dr Smith described the difference between the two roles and the path to take in order to succeed in a career in Sport or Exercise Psychology. The idea of following a degree course in the subject of Psychology or combined degree in Psychology and PE / Sport was recommended to the students, and a list of BASES accredited courses and institutions available to the students at university level was provided via the website: http://www.bases.org.uk/newsite/coursesearch.asp

After the talk, the students were much more aware of this exciting role and of how to do their research into finding the right course in order to pursue a career in the field. The students’ interest was fuelled in a lively question and answer session, and a lot of useful resources were left by Dr Smith with the department for those who continue to research this career opportunity.
