Sports Report

Following our phenomenal success at Loughborough University in ‘The British Colleges National Championships’, the college sports teams have all continued to work hard to maintain their reputation at the BCS FINALS.

On Wednesday 5th May, the college footballers travelled to Doncaster to play Brokenhurst College, Southampton. Proud that the team had made it to the BCS National FINALS (which is no mean feat), friends of the college: Miller Construction, Thorton Firkin and AA Projects generously ‘dug deep’ to sponsor the team to get them to the final game and show their support.

And our lads didn’t let them down; they put up a tremendous fight throughout the game and narrowly missed out winning the BCS Non Elite cup, going down 3-2. For 90 minutes the team showed a true fighting spirit and were unlucky to lose.

Meanwhile, a hundred miles away from sunny Doncaster, our Volleyballers were also busy playing in the BCS National FINALS. Dave Brereton and Ant Viggars took the male and female volleyball teams to the English Volleyball Centre in Kettering. Both teams won their respective groups convincingly and then easily won their finals. The girls became the National Champions (for the 2nd year running!!!!!) and the boys were awarded the National Plate… Next week the volleyballers will be competing in the mixed finals at Salford College.

On a more local note, Phil McPherson took our cricket team to play against local rivals, Newcastle College. In a closely fought game, we managed to beat them by 4 wickets!
