Course Overview

Do you dream of being part of a team that creates the next AAA game such as God of War or Elden Ring? Or to create your own Indie game? Is it your ambition to work in the dynamic and creative world of games design? If so, then our brand new and exciting Creative Media Production and Technology (Games Design) course is the qualification for you.

This course will teach you about the entire process of games design; including pre-production, creating concept art and characters, Producing exceptional 3D environments, developing realistic 2D and 3D animations and cut scenes, and creating realistic 3D models for your games. You will also learn how to script and use blueprints to create 2D and 3D games.

Course Features

At the City of Stoke on Trent College we have dedicated gaming rooms which include high spec PC’s, VR equipment and graphics tablets. This enables us to use the latest cutting edge technology such as the Unreal Engine 5, which is used to develop the next gen games for the PS5/Xbox Series X.

ASSESSMENT

The course is continuously assessed (NO exams!) Equivalent to 3 full A Levels for the 2-year programme. The focus of this course is on developing creative skills, where all assessment is holistic and based on portfolios of work. Evidence is generated through practical projects, briefs, workshops and engagement with the media industry. This prepares learners for progression to the media industry through the development of portfolios and materials for progression.

Most of the grade is awarded to the Final Project Units at the end of Year 2. Common assessment criteria – the same five common assessment criteria are used to assess all work produced throughout the qualification, this simplifies assessment and means that it is clear what learners are expected to do to achieve the criteria:
