TRANSITION (HEALTH & SCIENCE) T Level

Course Overview

The T Level Transition Programme (Health & Science) is a new type of 16 to 19 study programme, specifically designed to develop the skills, experience, knowledge and behaviours to support successful progression onto a T Level in either Health, Healthcare Science or Science.

It is targeted at students who are not yet ready to start a Level 3 T Level but have the potential to progress onto one following a tailored preparation programme. The T Level Transition Programme is a full-time study programme lasting up to a standard academic year in almost all cases.

Course Topics

Every T Level Transition programme has five key elements: diagnostic and guidance period, English and Maths skills development, work experience and preparation, introductory technical skills, pastoral support and personal development. The T Level Transition programme (Health & Science) will develop the introductory technical skills through either GCSE Combined Science or Level 2 CTEC Health & Social Care. If students do not have GCSE English or Maths, this will form the basis of their English or Maths skills development.

Course Features

In order to start on the T Level Transition programme (Health & Science), you must have either GCSE English at grade 4+ or GCSE Maths at grade 4+ and also meet the College entry criteria for Level 3 Foundation study.

The T Level Transition programme (Health & Science) is a programme of study that will prepare you for Level 3 study upon completion.
You will develop the skills and attributes for a future career in the Health or Science sector.
Work experience and pastoral support are integrated into the programme to help you prepare for working in a professional environment.
The Health & Science sectors of the economy and the world of work are growing, and offer a range of interesting and rewarding potential future careers.

Progression Routes

Studying the T level Transition Programme (Health & Science) at the Sixth Form College gives you the opportunity to progress to the Level 3 T Levels in Health & Science. This could lead to students progressing into a range of careers such as those within the NHS like Adult Nursing, Biomedical Scientist, Pathology Laboratory Technician, Forensic Scientist, Toxicologist, Genetics Laboratory Technician, Pharmacy/Pharmacy Technician. Some of these can be accessed directly after completing a T level, other students will go onto a degree apprenticeship or a degree first. Throughout the course, you will develop life-long learning skills.

ASSESSMENT

GCSE English, Maths and Science – 100% exam.
Level 2 CTEC Health & Social Care – 50% coursework and 50% exam
Work Experience – Employer reference

Students taking a T Level in Health and Science will gain the skills, knowledge and experience needed to progress to highly skilled employment, higher level study or an apprenticeship. Physics is more than a subject – it trains your brain to think beyond boundaries. Physics is a highly respected A level. A good grade in A level Physics demonstrates to an employer that you have analytical and mathematical skills that you can apply to real life situations. There are many possible career paths that it will create for you, for example: Engineering, Medicine, Forensic Science, Astronomy, Cosmology, Electronics, Power generation, Finance and many more.

Mathematics

GCSE

Students who have not yet taken their GCSE and those who did not gain at least a grade 5 at high school are best suited to this one year course. In addition students who already have a grade 5 but need a higher grade can take this course on the Higher Tier in order to achieve a higher grade.

A Level

Maths is all about solving puzzles and spotting patterns. It is the key to unlock a wealth of other sciences such as Chemistry and Physics. And there would be no computers at all in the world without maths. Taking your knowledge from GCSE Higher maths and expanding it into more complex and fascinating fields you will also study mechanics – how can predict the movement of objects acting under various forces – and statistics – how can we use data that we have observed to predict what may happen in the future?

Healthcare Science

This progrramme will prepare you for a T Level Health, T Level Heatlhcare Science or T Level Science course the following year. You will study GCSE Science alongside other L2 qualifications and also have the opportunity to gain experiences of working in the Health and Science industry.

Transition Digital

T-Level

This programme will provide learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress onto Digital Support or Production and design T Levels the following year. You will study a Level 2 Digital qualification alongside other GCSE qualifications. In addition you will gain experiences that will help prepare you for skilled employment, higher-level technical training or higher educaton study in the digital sector.

T Level

If you love creating, problem solving and working with digital hardware then this is the course for you! This course will provide learners with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress into skilled employment, higher-level technical training or higher education study in the digital sector.

Digital Production, Design and Development

T level

This is a two year course which has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses to ensure that the content meets the needs of the digital industry and prepares students for work. It is a level 3 qualification equivalent to 3 A Levels. More than 200 businesses, including Fujitsu have helped design the course content to make sure young people taking T Levels are equipped with the knowledge and skills that employer’s value.

Computer Science

A Level

Interested in what makes computers tick? Want an introduction to computing? If you like solving problems and you can think logically then Computer Science is the subject for you. You are given the opportunity to study current computer applications; high level language programming and systems analysis and design. Computing combines well with all Sciences, Mathematics, Product Design, Interactive Media and many other subjects.

Chemistry

A Level

Sometimes referred to as the ‘central science’, Chemistry helps to connect physical sciences, like Maths and Physics, with applied sciences, such as Biology, Medicine and Engineering. In fact, Chemistry is all around us and an understanding of the subject can help to answer many simple questions about everyday life. Chemistry is one of the Russell Group universities’ ‘facilitating’ subjects — so called because choosing them at A-level allows a wide range of options for degree study. An A-level in Chemistry is required for most medicine, dentistry, and vet courses.
