Blog by Brogan Griffiths, Netball Coach at the City of Stoke On Trent Sixth Form College

I am currently Head Coach for the Netball Squad at the college and I have been coaching the squad for 3 seasons, over the seasons we have developed and progressed as a squad, developing the technical aspect of the game alongside developing confidence, team ethic, strength, fitness and skill of each individual student.

I have played netball since the age of 7 and have been fortunate enough to progress through the netball pathway, including club, school, college, west midlands to then being selected for the England Indoor Netball Senior Squad. Indoor netball is a slight variation to traditional netball, although it implements all the knowledge and skills of traditional netball including the elite aspect of strength and conditioning. As a result of commitment and hard work, training individually and with the squad, I was then selected to play in South Africa 2019 Indoor Netball World Cup.

I have gained over several years of coaching experience at different local clubs, high schools, City of Stoke-on-Trent sporting events, etc. I am a very passionate player and coach and only want the best out of my players. The aim for the upcoming season will be to develop clinically as a squad and to increase our success rate in the league. We will achieve this by commitment to all training sessions, these will be held on Mondays & Wednesdays (Wednesdays usually game day). Training will involve:

  • Fitness testing
  • Strength and conditioning netball related sessions
  • Skill and technical development
  • Video analysis after the previous week’s game.

At Sixth Form, we offer a Talented Athlete Programme to students who are outstanding national or international performance. You will be offered scientific preparation, support and advice as well as access to top-class college sports facilities.

Netball at the college is open to all students for general fun and participation to an elite level of training.

I am proud to be part of such a fantastic Sixth Form and hope to see many of you getting involved in the sport at the college alongside your studies.

If interested in being part of the Talented Athlete Programme in netball at the College and having coaching sessions with Brogan as part of your timetable then please sign up for this during enrolment. If it open to all students regardless of the programme of study.
