VFX Day 2018
The City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College has teamed up with Stoke based Animation Marketing Studio Carse and Waterman and Overclockers to create the first Stoke-on-Trent VFX Day, taking place on 24th May 2018.
Hosted at the Sixth Form College, VFX Day 2018 welcomes Access VFX and some of the world’s leading visual effects studios to the city to inform and inspire young film-makers.
Over 200 students aged 13-19, from schools and Colleges across Stoke-on-Trent, will take part in the event. They will experience talks, workshops and interactive activities, designed and delivered by renowned visual effects artists.
Part of the event’s itinerary includes a showcase of cutting edge VR technology, presented by industry leaders Overclockers.
Included in the list of big name studios participating in the event are Industrial Light & Magic, Double Negative and Framestore. Amongst their collective work are such big name projects as Avengers: Infinity War, Blade Runner 2049, Paddington 2, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Part of the College’s popular Future’s Programme, VFX Day 2018 draws together the collective experience of VFX studios and renowned industry professionals to raise the awareness and aspirations of young people who are interested in the rapidly growing visual effects industry.
Daniel Waterman, from co-organiser, Carse & Waterman said about the event: ‘The goal of Stoke-on-Trent VFX Day 2018 is about the leading London VFX studios coming to Stoke-On-Trent to inspire the next generation of talent for the UK visual effects industry.’
Lisa Stewart, the Sixth Form College’s Futures Programme and Work Experience Co-ordinator said: ‘The Visual special effects industry in the UK is an increasingly significant one, but there can be misconceptions about how accessible the industry can be for aspiring filmmakers, or what’s required in terms of qualifications for entry.’
‘We are very grateful to co-organisers Access VFX and Carse & Waterman for working with us to create this event. This is a unique opportunity for young creatives from our city to learn from experts about an exciting and dynamic industry.’
