New Travel Corridor -Road Closures

Work begins today on a Travel Corridor Development between Stoke Station and Hanley City Centre

Starting today, construction work will commence on the redevelopment of Station Road and College Road, aimed at establishing a travel corridor between Stoke Station and Hanley city centre. The project will unfold in four distinct phases and is due for completion in winter 2024.

The development has been contracted to Galliford Try who will regularly provide updates regarding road closures, these updates will be promptly shared with both staff and students to ensure smooth communication and minimise disruptions.

Additionally, preparations for the closure of Bethesda Street are in progress and begin next week.

Overall, I am really proud and happy with my grades. The college facilities are amazing, especially the dance studios and LRC’s. The LRC’s are always quiet, which is useful for revision or completing coursework. The dance studio is a bright and spacious room to practice routines.

He has a keen interest in engineering which he has followed through completing a problem-solving course, attending the University of Bristol STEM Up! Course, as well as completing the UNIQ summer school, and Sutton Trust summer school for engineering. During his time at college, Dan has also completed the High Achievers Programme, been a course representative and completed bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh awards. All of his efforts helped Daniel to achieve top grades; four A* respectively in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Statistics and accepted an offer to study Engineering at Balliol College, University of Oxford. All students at The City of Stoke on Trent Sixth Form College are supported to undertake work experience throughout their time at the college. This may be face to face and/or virtual work experience.

Work Experience Opportunities

We are always looking for local employers to support Sixth Form College Students by offering work experience opportunities.

Students across all courses benefit enormously from a short period of work experience of between 5 and 10 days (either in week blocks or 1 day per week). This time provides students with an insight into a business and sector, in order to help them gain some entry-level skills, to experience the ‘soft-skills’ required in the workplace and to help build confidence. Work experience is also a useful tool to help students to identify where their future career interests lie and is therefore invaluable in its contribution to our students at this stage of their education.

BUSINESS PRESENTATIONS, FUTURES EVENTS AND STUDENT SITE VISITS

The College Futures Team are always looking for opportunities that will allow our students to interact with local and regional employers. These interactions allow students to get an insight into local job and career opportunities and provide valuable insights that can help as they make key decisions on the career paths that they want to explore. Meeting students provides businesses with a platform to increase knowledge of their business within the student community and can provide fruitful links for part time employment and long term training and career opportunities.

We welcome businesses in to College on a regular basis to attend either Futures Events evenings or to present to students on their businesses. We also welcome the opportunity for our students to visit business premises to get a feel for the workplace, it’s requirements and culture.
