Course Overview

Would you also like to study other interests at college? If so, then our brand new and exciting Level 3 Extended Certificate in Digital Games Production is the qualification for you.

This course will teach you about the process of games design; including pre-production, creating concept art and characters, developing realistic 2D animations and cut scenes, and understanding how to design and develop good gameplay mechanics. You will also learn how to script and use blueprints to create 2D.

Course Features

At the City of Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College, we have dedicated gaming rooms which include high-spec PC’s, VR equipment and graphics tablets. As this is a single award our focus will be mainly 2D but there are still opportunities to use the latest cutting-edge technology such as Unreal Engine 5, which is used to develop the next gen games for the PS5/Xbox Series X.

Awarding Body: Pearson Edexcel

One of the units in this course is a controlled assessment, which means that you will complete planning and practical activities under timed conditions in College.

The additional four units will be assessed as coursework, where evidence is generated through practical projects, briefs, workshops and engagement with the media industry. The work is marked by your teacher and verified by Edexcel.

You will learn and develop skills through the use of industry standard software and facilities, preparing you for both higher education and employment. You will study aspects of professional practice within the Gaming industry as part of the course. As the course is focused on developing skills leading to a final year project and portfolio development; this will provide a high chance of gaining employment at a junior level directly from College.
